Superb podium finish for Gravity driver Brendon

Gravity driver Brendon Hartley finished his season in style by taking a podium in the year’s final Formula Renault 3.5 series race.

The New Zealander started from P13 on the grid following a disappointing qualifying session Sunday morning. But he made a tremendous start to jump up to 8th place at the end of a dramatic first lap that saw title contenders Robert Wickens and Jean-Eric Vergne clash, putting the Canadian out of the race and bringing out the safety car.

From there Brendon made steady progress up the field as his Gravity-Charouz team played out a perfect strategy. He was the very last car to come in for the mandatory pit stop, doing so at the final chance on lap 17 by which time he was in the lead. When he returned to the track he was still in a fine third place, a position he held to the flag behind victor Albert Costa and Nick Yelloly. Brendon ended the season in 7th place overall.
