Formula Ones only visit to South America creates a unique atmosphere found only where race tracks are found in the centre of a city. The sprawl of the favellas around the twisty Interlagos track and the backdrop of the expanse of Sao Paulo creates a vibrant and party atmosphere unique to Brazil.
The draw and hero worship of Ayrton Senna has shown no signs of abating in the 17 years since his tragic death and serves as a reminder to the world what he and a multitude of other great Brazilian drivers have given to F1. This alone makes a trip to the Brazilian Grand Prix a must for the Formula 1 fan.
Sao Paulo is one of the venues where the paddock club is operated locally offering similar standards as you would expect but in a slightly different format. The catering carries a local flavour and the bars are busy with small corporate groups which find the venue attractive for entertaining their clients across the weekend. The teams tend to operate suites away from the main paddock club on the whole. Hospitality can be arranged here by BAM should you prefer this option, venues vary each year so contact us for the latest information.
The view from the paddock club is from the roof of the antiquated pit garages, just one level up from the paddock and pit so you are very close to the action. A viewing deck to the rear and end of the pit building gives views of the back of the track and great views of the Senna Esses, although space here is limited and the best spots are taken early.
Small exclusive hospitality areas exist here where you have grandstands in private external enclosures and private catering facilities and toilets. These venues are mid-priced and usually include a pit walk at some point across the weekend and offer a good way to guarantee a good view and escape the crowds, contact BAM for a full list of what options are available.
Of the many grandstands available those around the Senna Esses are amongst the best. Seating is unnumbered and you will need to arrive early and stay put to get the best places, but the atmosphere is friendly and vibrant so go with the flow and have a great time!
The vast open terrace at the last corner houses most of the F1 village and offers views from the back of the grid and across 9 separate corners. Great views, great value, and massive crowds... Oh and if it rains you’re going to know about it! But it's fantastic.
As to be expected from one of the biggest cities in the world, everything exists here. The great and not so great but this mix adds to the vibrancy of this sprawling city the scale of which has to be experienced firsthand to fully comprehend.
Downtown you will find hotels and restaurants of the highest order, ask BAM for hotel options which are available to suit all pockets and tastes.
Shopping is of the highest international standard, with the Avenida Paulista rivalling Oxford Street or 5th Avenue for choice and designer brands.
Why not try something truly Brazilian and visit a Churrascaria restaurant, heaven for carnivores with endless cuts of beef brought to your table on skewers and carved to your taste... Washed down with a few caprahinas.
Most racing fans who attend the Brazilian Grand Prix take the time to visit the quiet oasis on a hillside in the city where Senna’s grave can be found. It’s easy to find, in a prominent place and usually adorned with more flowers than most especially around the time of the Grand Prix.
Outside the city, visit the beaches at Santos, and watch budding Peles training on the sands, around a two hour taxi ride from the city. And when the racings done…there’s always Rio, a great stop on the way home!
One of the truly old school venues, created first and foremost as a racetrack and a far cry from the modern circuits emerging onto the calendar year by year, and that surely is an undeniable charm. Formula 1 long outgrew this place, there is limited space for the teams to operate, a minuscule paddock area, antiquated facilities but still F1 comes and “a good thing too” says BAM!
An amphitheater of a track, twisting and turning around the lake with great elevation changes and a pit straight which is neither straight nor flat as the drivers climb through the long final left-hander to cut across the pit entry crest the summit around the start line and descend at pace into the Senna Esses.. All under the gaze of the enthusiastic crowds that pack into the open pen terraces and covered stands.
Fancy dress and samba bands are the order of the day, particularly in stand D at the first corner where the action is as exciting in the stand as it is on the track!
Similarly, spend an hour watching the entertainment and characters who gather outside the main gate which makes the Brazilian Grand Prix an experience like no other!
Getting to the circuit will mean a transfer by taxi or limo, which of course can be arranged by BAM. Getting transfers and hotel locations right here is where experience counts to avoid traffic and crowds, or to be enveloped into the one way system that operates when the racing is on! Generally we would recommend the hotels downtown around the Avenida Paulista which puts you in the heart of the city when the racing stops, but adds to the travel time to and from the track. Alternatively, a complex of modern hotels has sprung up in the business district close by to the circuit, this is the place to be for convenience and is the base for most of the F1 fraternity over the weekend.
